A 46-year-old Hyderabad man working as a software engineer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, died after sustaining severe injuries in a reported missile attack at King Khalid International Airport. His two sons and aunt were also injured in the incident, while his wife and daughter escaped unharmed.
The deceased, Mohammad Yousuf Ali, had been working in Riyadh for around 10 years. He had recently returned to Hyderabad to spend time with his family before travelling to Saudi Arabia for an Umrah pilgrimage.
Family Caught in Airport Attack
According to Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, Yousuf Ali had travelled with his family to Saudi Arabia on October 2. The family was reportedly at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, waiting near a check-in kiosk at around 3 pm local time, when a projectile struck the airport.
Owaisi shared details of the incident in a post on X on Monday, expressing concern over the injuries suffered by the family and seeking assistance from the Indian government.
According to an AIMIM spokesperson, Ali sustained critical injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Doctors reportedly amputated both his legs because of the severity of his injuries. He later died of a massive heart attack on Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Two Sons and Aunt Sustain Injuries
Ali’s two sons, Amaan and Wasey, were also injured in the attack. Amaan sustained a knee injury and underwent surgery, while Wasey suffered a leg injury. According to Owaisi, three of Wasey’s toes were severed.
Ali’s aunt, Atiya Sultana, sustained head injuries and was receiving medical treatment. She was reported to be out of danger. His wife, Sameera, and daughter, Maryam, escaped without injuries.
The incident has left the family facing a difficult situation as they deal with the loss and the medical treatment required by the injured members.
Owaisi Seeks Centre’s Intervention
Owaisi said he was in contact with Ali’s brother-in-law in Riyadh and had spoken to the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy, who assured him of assistance.
He also urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to intervene and ensure that the family received all possible support.
The request includes assistance for the injured family members and help with the arrangements following Ali’s death.
Assistance for Affected Family Sought
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of civilians travelling through the region amid heightened security tensions. The family is dealing with the consequences of the reported airport attack while seeking medical and consular assistance.
Further details regarding the circumstances of the projectile strike and the ongoing situation at the airport were not immediately available in the report.
