The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has ordered the closure of 10 construction and demolition sites in Gurugram North for failing to implement dust-control measures and install mandatory cameras and air-quality sensors.

The action follows closure notices issued to 225 sites last week for failing to register on the state’s dust-monitoring portal. Gurugram has more than 900 active construction sites.

The enforcement drive comes as the city’s air quality deteriorated to the ‘very poor’ category, with the AQI reaching 319 on Tuesday.

Under Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines, projects on plots measuring 500 square metres or more must install geo-fenced cameras and PM2.5 and PM10 sensors, with live feeds linked to monitoring portals.

Separately, Gurugram has banned dust-generating construction and demolition activities from November 5 to 20. Government and private offices have also been directed to limit physical attendance to 50%, with exemptions for essential services and specified infrastructure projects.

Authorities will conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance, with violations liable for action under the CAQM Act, 2021.
