NEW DELHI: India’s HPV vaccination campaign has got off to a strong start, with nearly 3 lakh girls aged 14 vaccinated within just two weeks of its launch, according to a health ministry official. States such as Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Odisha, and Mizoram are leading the rollout.
The HPV vaccine protects against cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers among women. Early signs indicate growing awareness among parents and schools about its benefits.
The campaign is being conducted during the academic session and has continued despite ongoing examinations. Officials expect the pace of vaccinations to increase further once exams conclude, allowing wider coverage.
Health teams are coordinating with schools and local authorities to ensure smooth access, while parents are being encouraged to vaccinate eligible girls at the earliest.
