A retired Army serviceman and his wife were found dead at their residence near the Agra bypass in Hathras on Sunday. Police suspect the couple was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon and have formed five teams to identify those responsible and establish the motive.

The victims were identified as 58-year-old Shamsuddin and his 55-year-old wife, Saddo Begum. Their bodies were discovered in a pool of blood inside their home in the Sadabad Kotwali area.

According to police, the murders are believed to have taken place during the night. The couple’s house reportedly remained closed in the morning, prompting people nearby to raise an alarm. Police were subsequently informed, and the bodies were found at around 9:30 am.

Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha and Circle Officer Yogendra Krishna Narayan reached the scene with other police personnel and inspected the residence.

Forensic specialists and a dog squad were also brought in to gather evidence and assist investigators.

The police said an initial examination indicated that the victims had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. Further investigation is underway.

Officials said the motive had not yet been established. Five teams have been assigned to identify the suspected perpetrators, collect evidence and investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Shamsuddin had retired from the Army approximately 20 years ago. Police said he had two wives and would stay with them at different times.

He had reportedly spent Saturday night at the residence near the Agra bypass with his first wife, Saddo Begum, where the incident is believed to have occurred.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police examining the crime scene and gathering information to determine how the killings took place and who was responsible.
