Gurugram’s food safety department and the chief minister’s flying squads destroyed around 125 kg of paneer found unfit for consumption and collected eight food samples during a joint inspection drive on Monday.

The operation was conducted at Sadar Bazaar Mandi, Pataudi Chowk and Bhagwan Parshuram Vatika amid concerns over the sale of substandard and potentially adulterated food products.

During inspections, officials found foul-smelling paneer at two shops and deemed it unsafe for consumption. The seized paneer was destroyed on the spot to prevent it from being sold, officials said.

The inspection team also collected four paneer samples, one khoa sample and three samples of sweets for laboratory testing. The samples will be sent to the state food testing laboratory to assess whether they meet prescribed food safety and quality standards.

Further Action to Depend on Laboratory Reports

Officials said action against the establishments concerned would depend on the laboratory findings. If the samples fail to meet the required standards, proceedings may be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The operation comes amid increased scrutiny of dairy products and sweets in Gurugram ahead of the festive season. Food safety teams have been inspecting shops, dairies and other food outlets to prevent the sale of unsafe products.

The department has reiterated that inspections will continue and warned food business operators against selling products that violate food safety standards.

The laboratory results for all eight samples collected during the latest operation are awaited.
