RAJKOT: A 29-year-old man from a village near Talaja town in Bhavnagar district has been arrested for allegedly raping his 22-year-old sister at knifepoint on two occasions over the past six weeks.

Police said the accused, a married driver with one child, attacked his sister on July 13 and again on August 22 when she was home alone. On both occasions, he threatened her with a knife. During the second assault, he also branded her right thigh with a lit bidi.

Following the second incident, the survivor called the 181 women’s helpline, after which she was taken to Talaja police station on Wednesday to file an FIR.

Exploitation and Threats

According to investigators, the survivor had been in a relationship with a young man from the village for the past three years, a fact her brother used to blackmail her into silence. She is unmarried and lives with her parents and brother.

Police Action

Talaja police seized the knife used in the crime and the clothes worn by the accused. Both the survivor and the accused have undergone medical examinations, and statements have been recorded.

Investigating officer D P Khambhla said the first assault took place while the accused’s wife was at her parents’ home, and the second when she had stepped out for work.

The man has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — 64(2)(F)(M) and 115(2).
