Four members of a family were killed and two others critically injured after a refrigerator reportedly exploded and triggered a devastating fire at their home in Belagavi’s Chavat Galli, near the Central Bus Stand, late Monday night.
The fire reportedly engulfed the house within minutes, trapping the family members inside and leaving them with little time to escape. The tragedy occurred while the family was celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, leaving the neighbourhood in shock.
The deceased were identified as Gajanan Damone, 65, Sharada Damone, 45, Bharati Damone, 50, and Roshan Damone, 21.
Priya Damone, 28, and Ganga Damone, 25, sustained serious injuries in the blaze and were rushed to a hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Market police station, has left relatives devastated, particularly as the tragedy struck during the family’s festival celebrations.
The exact cause of the refrigerator explosion and the subsequent fire has not yet been established. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
