Four alleged gangsters linked to fugitive criminal Deepak Nandal were killed and another was critically injured in a gun battle with the Gurgaon Police Crime Branch in Sushant Lok Phase-2 on Thursday. Three police personnel also sustained bullet injuries during the encounter.
According to police, the accused had allegedly opened fire on the residence of a 36-year-old businessman who had been receiving extortion threats worth several crores. More than 60 rounds were fired during the incident, with the suspects reportedly firing around 40 rounds.
Acting on prior intelligence, Crime Branch teams reached the scene while the attack was in progress. Police said the accused, travelling in a rented black Scorpio SUV, ignored orders to surrender and instead opened fire on officers. The police retaliated in self-defence after warning the suspects, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
All five alleged shooters were injured in the encounter and taken to a private hospital, where four were declared dead. The fifth remains in critical condition. The three injured police personnel are under medical supervision.
No one inside the targeted house was injured, though bullets damaged windows and walls, causing panic among residents in the neighbourhood.
Police recovered five pistols, including three foreign-made firearms, from the scene. Senior officers, forensic teams, and crime scene experts examined the area, while investigators continue to verify the identities and criminal backgrounds of the accused. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
