A five-year-old girl was found dead with her throat slit in Bihar’s Purnia district, triggering shock and anger in her village.
The victim, identified as Somiya Kumari, had gone with her mother to attend a wedding in Dhurpaili village under the Amour police station area on Sunday evening. According to her family, she left home around 4 pm but did not return, initially leading relatives to believe she was nearby.
As hours passed with no sign of the child, family members and villagers launched a search operation. They checked nearby homes, fields, and temple premises, while announcements were made from both the temple and mosque in an effort to locate her—but without success.
Her body was discovered the following morning in an orchard within the village. Police said her throat had been slit with a sharp-edged weapon, and the body bore signs of severe violence.
Police have initiated an investigation and called in a forensic science team to collect evidence. “Given the seriousness of the case, an FSL team was deployed. Key evidence has been gathered, but the motive and the identity of the assailant are still unknown,” said Awadhesh Kumar, officer in charge of Amour police station.
Authorities are awaiting a formal written complaint from the family, which is expected to aid further proceedings.
The wedding venue where celebrations were underway has since turned into a scene of mourning. Outraged villagers have demanded swift arrests and strict punishment for those responsible, as the investigation continues.
