NEW DELHI: At least five people, including two children and two women, were killed when a double-decker sleeper bus traveling from Begusarai, Bihar to Delhi caught fire on Kisan Path in the Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow early Thursday morning.

Lucknow South Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Nipun Agarwal confirmed the incident, stating: “This morning, Mohanlalganj Police Station received information about a private sleeper bus from Begusarai to Delhi catching fire. Tragically, five passengers from Bihar lost their lives in the blaze.”

The bus was reportedly carrying around 70 passengers, most of whom were safely evacuated. Those rescued are being assisted and sent home.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
