NEW DELHI: A fire broke out in the basement of a hotel in Humayunpur Village near Safdarjung Enclave on Thursday evening, prompting a swift response from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
Officials said the blaze was contained quickly, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Fire Erupts in Basement Storage Area
According to the Delhi Fire Services, a call reporting the fire was received at approximately 7:06 pm.
Following the alert, five fire tenders were dispatched to the location to carry out firefighting and rescue operations.
Fire officials said furniture stored in the hotel’s basement caught fire, causing the blaze to spread within the storage area.
Blaze Controlled Within Minutes
Emergency personnel managed to bring the fire under control within about 15 minutes of reaching the spot.
The prompt response helped prevent the flames from spreading to other parts of the building and avoided any major damage or casualties.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire, and further assessment is expected.

The incident comes a day after a devastating fire at a guest house in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar claimed 21 lives, making it one of the city’s deadliest fire tragedies in recent years.
Victims Likely Died From Smoke Inhalation
Investigators examining the Malviya Nagar fire have uncovered several alleged safety lapses at the premises.
Preliminary findings indicate that most victims may have died due to suffocation and smoke inhalation rather than burn injuries, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
The findings underscore the dangers posed by toxic smoke in enclosed spaces during major fire incidents.
Dozens of Phones and Passports Recovered
During a room-by-room search of the guest house, police recovered approximately 50 to 60 mobile phones from the building.
Investigators also found nearly 30 passports among the belongings left behind by occupants, suggesting that several guests may have been travellers staying at the property.
Extreme Heat Revealed Intensity of Blaze
Sources said the rooms remained extremely hot even after firefighters extinguished the flames, highlighting the intensity of the fire and the severe accumulation of heat and smoke inside the structure.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including possible violations of fire safety regulations and emergency preparedness measures.
