LUCKNOW: Panic erupted at the government-run Lokbandhu Hospital late Monday night after a fire broke out around 10 PM, triggering chaos and a large-scale evacuation, report Pathikrit Chakraborty and Mohsin Usmani.

More than 200 patients, including those in critical condition, were evacuated as thick smoke quickly spread through the facility.

According to hospital officials, the fire is believed to have started due to a suspected short circuit in the women’s medicine and emergency ward on the second floor. The blaze spread rapidly across the floor, prompting immediate emergency response.

There were unconfirmed reports of a patient’s death while being transferred to SPIMS hospital. An official statement regarding the fatality was still awaited at the time of reporting.
