MEERUT: In a shocking incident, a family of five—a 40-year-old mason, his wife, and their three daughters aged 8, 4, and 1—was murdered in their rented home in a densely populated area of Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut.
Police reported that Moin, the father, was found tied to a cot, while the bodies of his wife Asma, 36, and daughters Afsa, Aziza, and Adiba were discovered stuffed in a bed box. All five were reportedly bludgeoned with heavy objects. The house, located in the Lisadi Gate area, had been locked, with electricity disconnected.
According to Asma’s brother, a property dispute involving stepbrothers could be a possible motive. “The victims were last seen alive on Wednesday morning,” said SSP (Meerut) Vipin Tada, adding that the bodies appeared to have been packed with clothes and sacks, possibly in preparation to move them elsewhere for disposal.
The murders occurred in one of Meerut’s most crowded neighborhoods, where houses are tightly packed, yet neighbors reported hearing no screams or signs of disturbance.
The crime came to light Thursday evening when relatives, unable to contact the family, alerted neighbors, who broke into the ransacked house. A case has been registered against three suspects, two of whom are detained while the third remains at large. The police are awaiting the postmortem report to aid the investigation.
