PALGHAR: Electronic goods worth an estimated ₹9 crore were destroyed after a container truck caught fire on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway near Vasai in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Tuesday night.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm, briefly disrupting traffic on the busy highway, according to PTI.
Officials from the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) Fire Services said the container truck was travelling to Ahmedabad when the fire broke out.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and, after sustained efforts, managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby vehicles or surrounding areas.
The truck driver and cleaner escaped unharmed, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
However, the consignment of electronic goods being transported was completely gutted in the fire, resulting in losses estimated at around ₹9 crore, PTI reported.
The incident affected vehicular movement on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway for more than two hours before the charred vehicle was removed and normal traffic resumed.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An investigation has been launched to ascertain what triggered the blaze.
