In honour of the centennial celebrations for shipping magnate and philanthropist Sammy Ofer, Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is aiming to raise SGD1 million ($740,200) for The Missions to Seafarers.

The EPS’ Around the World Fundraiser calls on members of the EPS community partners, sponsors, friends and family across sea and shore to walk, run or cycle at their own pace to reach a goal of 100,000 km. The distance can be tracked via EPS Strava-Clubs between 2 – 22 February 2022.

EPS said that the fundraiser would be in Sammy Ofer (1922 – 2011) whose 100th birthday would have been on 22 February 2022.

“To commemorate his life and legacy, we are calling on the maritime community to walk, run and cycle 100,000km during our fundraising period,” EPS said on in a post on its corporate website.

EPS is pledging SGD250,000 to the campaign and is inviting corporate sponsors to meet the SGD1m goal.

Capt Rob Walker, Chairman of the Mission Seafarers Singapore, said: “We are sincerely grateful to Eastern Pacific Shipping for this incredible initiative in bringing together the Maritime community to support and appreciate our seafarers in the true spirit of Mr. Sammy Ofer KBE”
