NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has rescued two boys in separate abduction cases where men allegedly kidnapped the children to coerce their mothers into relationships.
In the first case, a seven-year-old was abducted by Ajay Verma (24), a Haryana resident, who wanted to force his former live-in partner to reunite with him. The boy’s mother, a divorcee, lodged a complaint at Vikaspuri police station on September 28 after her son failed to return from school.
CCTV footage showed two men taking the child on a motorcycle. Police traced Verma to a farmhouse in Hisar, where the boy was found safe. Verma and two associates, Amit (18) and Sachin (20), were arrested, along with another youth who was caught with a country-made pistol. Police said Verma had threatened that the child would not be released unless the mother returned to him.
In the second case, Sudhir Kumar Thakur (35), from Bihar’s Ara district, allegedly kidnapped the three-year-old son of a woman in Krishna Nagar after she rejected his marriage proposal. Thakur, who lived in the same building, took the child on September 14 under the pretext of medical treatment.
Police tracked him after the mother noticed a background resembling Surat railway station during a WhatsApp video call. With the help of Gujarat Railway Police, Thakur was arrested at Surat station and the boy was rescued.
Both accused face charges of kidnapping, while Verma has also been booked under the Arms Act.
