New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a major push to upgrade technical and vocational education across Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the capital.
Under the initiative, four ITIs will get state-of-the-art laboratories, while existing facilities will be modernised to better align training with current industry standards. The move aims to significantly improve employability and technical skills among trainees.
At ITI Jahangirpuri, a dedicated power electronics lab will be set up, offering advanced training in areas such as industrial automation, electrical control systems and renewable energy. The lab will feature modern equipment including PLC kits, VFD trainers, motor control panels, solar PV systems and smart energy monitoring tools. It is expected to train around 480 students across multiple trades and evolve into a centre of excellence in power engineering.
At ITI Jail Road, the existing welding lab will be comprehensively upgraded with advanced machines, simulators and modern fabrication tools. Facilities will include arc, MIG/TIG welding, gas and plasma cutting, along with simulation-based training systems. Around 200 trainees are expected to benefit, with improved exposure to real-world industrial processes.
Automotive labs at ITI Arab Ki Sarai will also be upgraded with cutting-edge technology, including Virtual Reality simulators for training in driving, welding and painting. New modules on advanced vehicle systems such as ABS and airbags will be introduced, benefiting about 208 trainees and enhancing skills in modern automotive diagnostics and repair.
Additionally, an Electric Vehicle (EV) lab will be established at HJB ITI Mayur Vihar, focusing on next-generation technologies like battery management systems, EV charging infrastructure and electric motors. Around 184 trainees will gain hands-on experience in EV assembly, testing and maintenance.
The chief minister said the initiative will help create a skilled, industry-ready workforce by combining technical training with real-world exposure. She added that the programme aligns with the vision of Narendra Modi’s Skill India mission, aiming to empower youth and boost employment and self-reliance.
