NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old man was shot dead after armed assailants stormed a grocery shop attached to his residence in Bawana and opened fire, injuring three others—including a child—on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Ravi, was allegedly targeted by members of a rival gang. Police suspect he had links to the Gogi gang and may have been attacked by operatives of the Tillu Tajpuria gang.
According to officials, the gunmen fired around a dozen rounds inside the shop. Ravi’s 55-year-old father, Anil, sustained gunshot wounds to the leg. A passerby, Rajkumar (46), was also hit, while an eight-year-old boy suffered a graze injury from a stray bullet. All three injured are reported to be out of danger.
A senior police officer said Ravi had previously been arrested in 2022 under the Arms Act, with four pistols allegedly recovered from his possession. Police teams have launched raids across Delhi and neighbouring Haryana in search of the attackers.
Investigators believe the killing is linked to the long-running and violent rivalry between the Gogi and Tillu Tajpuria gangs, which has claimed more than two dozen lives over the past decade.
In 2021, Gogi gang leader Jitender Gogi was shot dead inside a courtroom in Rohini. The following year, his rival Tillu Tajpuria was killed in Tihar Jail. More recently, a man allegedly associated with the Gogi gang, Sahil Solanki, was shot dead near his residence in Delhi last month.
