Heavy overnight rain followed by intense morning showers caused severe waterlogging across Delhi on Thursday, disrupting traffic and delaying thousands of commuters during peak office hours.
According to Delhi Traffic Police, at least 12 complaints of traffic congestion were received from more than 10 major locations across the city. Some of the worst-hit areas included the Ghazipur-Delhi Meerut Expressway and NH-9, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road near Okhla Mor, Nehru Place to Chirag Delhi, Delhi Cantonment near Dhaula Kuan, Mahipalpur, and several roads in Dwarka.
Waterlogging was also reported at the Pandav Nagar underpass, Anand Vihar-Dilshad Garden flyover, the underpass near Anand Vihar railway station, and near the Geeta Colony crematorium, slowing traffic significantly.
Many commuters faced long delays due to flooded roads. A government employee travelling from Indirapuram in Ghaziabad said his usual 40-minute journey to India Gate took nearly one and a half hours because of the heavy congestion.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said traffic personnel were deployed at affected locations, while civic agencies used water pumps to drain flooded roads and restore traffic movement as quickly as possible.
