Delhi Police on Wednesday transferred Inspector Arun Kumar, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahdara police station, to its Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) branch, a day after ACP Manasvi Vashisht was suspended following a protest by police personnel over their transfers.

Kumar was earlier moved from Shahdara police station to the security unit following a confrontation between lawyers and police personnel over an October 23 incident.

The IFSO branch, under the Delhi Police Special Cell, handles cases related to cybercrime, fraud and online threats.

According to an order issued by the Delhi Police Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, the officers were directed to join their new assignments immediately, with compliance to be reported to headquarters.

On Monday, more than 100 Delhi Police personnel gathered outside police headquarters, seeking a meeting with Commissioner Anurag Kumar to present their account of the October 23 incident and demanding the reinstatement of Vashisht and Kumar.

Vashisht, who was serving as sub-divisional police officer in Gandhi Nagar, was transferred to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) on October 28. Kumar was moved to the security unit.

The transfers followed demands by lawyers for action against police officers over an alleged assault on advocate Lalit Bansal, who sustained a serious head injury during a scuffle at Shahdara police station on October 23.

The incident was followed by a confrontation between lawyers and police personnel, prompting district court lawyers to launch an indefinite strike.
