VADODARA: A woman schoolteacher was allegedly slapped by a Class 12 student in front of her classmates after she questioned him about arriving late for an examination in Shehra, in Panchmahal district.
The incident occurred on January 24, but the teacher filed a police complaint only this week after allegedly facing threats from the student’s family and associates. Police arrested the 18-year-old student on Thursday and conducted a reconstruction of the incident, drawing public attention to the case.
According to the FIR, the student had arrived late for his Class 12 pre-board examination, which was being supervised by the teacher. When she asked him the reason for his delay, he reportedly replied that no one at home questioned him and then slapped her in front of the class.
The complaint states that the student also pushed the teacher, who managed to remain standing by holding on to the classroom smartboard. He then left the room. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the classroom.
Following the incident, the teacher informed the school’s in-charge principal, and the student’s father was called to the campus. He reportedly apologised, and it was decided that further action would be taken after the full-time principal returned on January 27.
However, on that day, the student, his father, and around 20 others allegedly visited the school and threatened the teacher. She claimed they warned her of “serious consequences,” pointing out that she lived alone in the town.
The teacher, who is originally from Navsari, said she was initially afraid to approach the police but later gathered the courage to register a complaint.
Shehra police inspector Ankur Chaudhary said the accused student has no previous criminal record. He added that the boy’s father works as a state transport bus driver.
Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
