The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Jitendra Pathak, a proclaimed offender who had allegedly been evading arrest for nearly 10 years in a job fraud case.
According to the CBI, Pathak was accused of impersonating a Lok Sabha employee and cheating a private individual of ₹50,000 by promising to secure him a job in Parliament.
The case was registered in 2009 against Pathak and others. After the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet in December 2009, naming Pathak and another accused. However, Pathak allegedly stopped appearing before the court during the trial and could not be traced despite repeated efforts.
A trial court declared him a proclaimed offender on September 28, 2016, after the required legal procedures were completed.
The CBI later received information during field verification that Pathak was living in Ludhiana, Punjab. Following technical analysis and other leads, the agency launched an operation and arrested him in Ludhiana on August 19.
The arrest brings a long-running investigation to a significant stage, with the accused now facing further legal proceedings in connection with the alleged job fraud.
In a separate case in Bihar, police in Khagaria arrested a man accused of posing as an IAS officer and falsely claiming links with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Police identified the accused as Manish Gupta and said a Tesla car, an SUV, more than 31 litres of imported liquor and other luxury items were recovered from his residence.
According to police, Gupta allegedly posed as a senior government official and was involved in fraudulent activities in different parts of Bihar.
