The Union Cabinet on Friday approved Samudra Manthan, a Rs 84,084 crore national offshore exploration programme aimed at boosting oil and gas exploration in India’s offshore basins and reducing the country’s dependence on energy imports.
The five-year scheme seeks to expand exploration in deepwater and ultra-deepwater regions through large-scale seismic surveys, exploratory drilling, and the development of common offshore infrastructure to support future exploration and production activities.
