MUMBAI: A minor altercation between two aggregator cab drivers at Mumbai’s domestic airport escalated dramatically into a dangerous chase, as one driver clung to the bonnet of a moving car for several kilometres along the Western Express Highway.
The incident occurred around midnight on Wednesday. According to police, Bhimprasad Mahanto (34) attempted to flee the scene following a scuffle with fellow driver Justin J (34). In an apparent bid to stop him, Justin jumped onto the bonnet of Mahanto’s cab — and Mahanto kept driving with Justin still hanging on.
A two-wheeler rider who witnessed the spectacle recorded the hair-raising scene, and the video quickly went viral on social media. It shows Justin gripping the car’s edges while speaking to the biker filming the ordeal.
Police said the confrontation began as a minor disagreement between the two drivers but spiraled out of control. “Mahanto was trying to escape after the scuffle when Justin jumped on the bonnet,” an officer said.
Mahanto has since been detained, and his vehicle seized. A case has been registered at the Airport police station. Justin filed a formal complaint, and Mahanto has been booked and issued a legal notice.
