Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore and C-Torq Marine Services LLC have signed a memorandum of understanding in Abu Dhabi to cooperate on the development and Approval in Principle of the W-VOLT120 hydrogen-based energy system, according to a Bureau Veritas statement.
The agreement focuses on collaboration around the design concept and safety framework of W-VOLT120, a hydrogen energy system intended for clean power generation in maritime and industrial applications.
Under the MoU, the parties will examine how hydrogen energy technologies can be integrated into class-compliant frameworks, with the stated objective of supporting reductions in emissions from propulsion systems and onboard power generation.
The cooperation will involve assessing the system’s design, establishing a safety framework and determining its technological readiness for practical application.
The work is expected to include structured technical discussions, evaluation of technical data and a formal assessment against Bureau Veritas classification requirements.
The Approval in Principle process is intended to provide a basis for subsequent stages, including validation, prototype testing and certification.
