BENGALURU: A 26-year-old woman helped police arrest a man after he allegedly harassed her outside her paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru’s Ramamurthy Nagar by making inappropriate remarks and offering her ₹10,000 in the early hours of Monday.
The accused, Vijay Raghav (42), a resident of NRI Layout and a fruit seller, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the woman, who works at a private firm and is originally from Chikkamagaluru.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1.30 am when Raghav allegedly noticed the woman standing outside her PG accommodation and continued staring at her. When she questioned his behaviour, he allegedly asked her “price” and offered to pay her ₹10,000.
The woman immediately began recording the interaction on her mobile phone, prompting the accused to flee the spot on his scooter.
Later that morning, she uploaded the video on social media, where it quickly went viral. After taking note of the footage, police contacted the woman and requested that she file a formal complaint.
Based on her complaint, officers arrested Raghav.
During questioning, the accused offered a different version of events. He claimed he had stopped his scooter to answer a phone call after dropping off his business partner. According to him, he looked at the woman out of curiosity, after which she allegedly asked whether he had never seen a woman wearing shorts before. He claimed he responded by saying he would pay her ₹10,000 and left the scene when she began recording the interaction.
A senior police officer said that irrespective of how the conversation began, asking a woman her “price” and offering her money amounted to an offence, leading to the man’s arrest.
