BENGALURU: A 35-year-old cab driver has been arrested for allegedly groping his neighbour and later attacking her husband with a machete after being confronted over the incident.
The accused, identified as Puttaraju, was arrested by Shankarapuram police following a complaint filed by the woman. He has been remanded to judicial custody at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.
Police said the incident took place recently on Rangarao Road in Shankarapuram near Chamrajpet.
According to investigators, the homemaker, who is in her 30s, was washing utensils in the backyard of her house when Puttaraju allegedly approached and groped her.
“When the woman raised an alarm, her husband, who works as a security guard, rushed out of the house. A confrontation followed between the two men,” a police officer said.
Police said the husband allegedly picked up a machete from his house and moved towards the accused. In response, Puttaraju allegedly grabbed a frying pan from the utensils nearby and struck the man on the head.
As the victim fell to the ground, the accused allegedly snatched the machete and attacked him, causing multiple injuries.
Neighbours later intervened and rescued the injured man before the situation escalated further.
Police have registered a case and launched further investigation into the incident.
The identity of the woman has not been disclosed in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines protecting the privacy of victims in sexual assault-related cases.
