BENGALURU: Two men from Doddaballapur Rural have been arrested for allegedly attacking a woman architect and her husband in a violent road rage incident that began after she honked at their vehicle for blocking the road.
The complainant, 29-year-old architect B Rachana from Rajajinagar, told police that the incident occurred on Friday on Hesaraghatta Main Road near Doddabelavangala while she was returning home after delivering breakfast to her husband Bharath, who was supervising construction work at their farmhouse in Hesaraghatta.
According to Rachana, trouble began when she honked at a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) obstructing her path.
“When I honked, a man from the MUV came near my window and clicked my photo on his mobile phone. Sensing danger, I called my husband and asked him to rush to the spot,” she said in her complaint.
Rachana alleged that although the man initially moved the vehicle aside, he again blocked her path around 500 metres ahead.
“Two men, including the earlier one, came near my window, and one of them threatened to smash the glass with a stone,” she stated.
Husband allegedly attacked with stone
By the time the confrontation escalated, Bharath had reached the location. He reportedly asked the men to delete Rachana’s photograph from their mobile phone and leave.
Instead, the accused allegedly turned violent.
“They assaulted my husband and tried to kill him by dropping a stone on his head,” Rachana alleged in her complaint.
The situation was brought under control after two of Rachana’s relatives, whom she had alerted earlier, arrived at the scene. The trio confronted the attackers and informed the police.
Police later arrested the accused, identified as 25-year-old M Mahesh and 39-year-old M Govinda Raju, both farmers from Dasenahalli village. They have since been remanded to judicial custody.
A senior police officer said investigations revealed that both men were allegedly under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
“Thinking Rachana was an outsider, they misbehaved with her. We have booked them under various sections, including attempt to murder,” the officer said.
Separate road rage incident involving BMTC driver
In another recent road rage case in Bengaluru, a biker allegedly attacked a BMTC driver after a bus reportedly brushed against his two-wheeler on Bannerghatta Road.
Bystanders intervened and prevented the biker from continuing the assault. No police complaint has been filed in that case so far.
