A 22-year-old law student has died after battling critical injuries for over two days following a brutal stabbing in Bengaluru’s Kodihalli. The attack allegedly stemmed from a rejected marriage proposal after the victim ended her relationship with one of the accused.

The victim, Amrutha R., a fourth-year law student who also worked part-time at a pizza outlet, was attacked on July 13 while returning home. Police said she was stabbed multiple times in the chest and back before being rushed to a private hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on July 15.

The accused, Dhanush G. (24) and his brother Surya G. (21), have been arrested. According to the victim’s family, Amrutha ended her relationship with Dhanush after discovering he had allegedly concealed his previous marriage and child. Her family also alleged they had been pressured to approve the marriage despite her refusal.

Police said Surya allegedly carried out the attack and was caught by bystanders while attempting to flee. A case initially registered for attempt to murder has now been upgraded to murder following Amrutha’s death.

Investigators are examining all possible motives, including claims by the accused of a financial dispute between the two families. The investigation is ongoing.
