The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, declined for a fifth straight session on Friday, dropping about 2.2% to its lowest since August 25 at 3,002 points.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, slipped by 4% to its lowest since August 21 at 4,638 points.

Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, edged up by 0.1% to 2,366 points; and the supramax index rose by 0.3% to 1,795 points.
