NEW DELHI: India’s flagship health insurance programme, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), has issued more than 43.5 crore health cards so far, including 1.14 crore for senior citizens aged 70 and above, the government said on Tuesday.
The scheme, which provides annual hospitalisation cover of ₹5 lakh per family, has empanelled over 36,000 hospitals across the country. Beneficiaries can access cashless treatment for nearly 2,000 medical procedures spanning 27 specialties. Since its launch, more than 11.6 crore hospital admissions have been authorised, amounting to ₹1.73 lakh crore.
At the same time, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) is driving the expansion of a nationwide digital health ecosystem. Over 86 crore health IDs have been generated, with more than 90 crore health records now digitally linked.
The government added that more than 2.5 lakh health facilities are currently using ABDM-enabled software, reflecting rapid adoption of digital infrastructure in the healthcare sector.
