Visakhapatnam: A doctor, his wife, and their three-year-old daughter were found dead in a suspected suicide pact at a lodge in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district, police said.
The incident occurred at a lodge in Narasaraopeta, where the family had checked in on Saturday night. The deceased have been identified as Dr K Gopi, an anaesthesiologist working at AIIMS Bhopal, his wife K Sankara Kumari (30), a nurse, and their daughter K Mounika.
According to police, Sankara Kumari and the child died on Sunday, while Dr Gopi succumbed on Monday morning during treatment.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the doctor allegedly administered a high dose of medication to his wife and daughter, and later injected himself. He reportedly shared videos and the location of the lodge with relatives shortly after.
Concern arose when the family did not step out of their room till Sunday afternoon. Lodge staff alerted the police, while relatives also reached the spot. Officers broke open the door and found all three unconscious. They were rushed to a private hospital, where the mother and child were declared dead, while Gopi died later.
The family hailed from Satuluru village in Palnadu district and had travelled from Bhopal shortly before the incident.
Police suspect the extreme step may be linked to the child’s deteriorating health, though the exact cause is yet to be established. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
