Six people, including five women, were killed and at least 12 others injured after a private bus carrying 42 passengers collided with a truck in Telangana’s Suryapet district early Wednesday, police said.

The accident took place around 4.30 am near Kodad mandal. The bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Eluru in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh when it rammed into the truck from behind, according to preliminary investigations.

A senior police official confirmed that six people died in the crash, while the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Police suspect that the truck had first collided with a road divider before the bus crashed into it. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed condolences to the families of those who died and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved. He also directed the Chief Secretary to take all necessary measures to ensure that those injured receive advanced medical treatment.
