JAIPUR: A late-night rampage by an allegedly drunk driver left two dead and at least eight injured in the Nahargarh area of Jaipur on Monday. The driver, behind the wheel of an SUV, reportedly lost control and rammed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles across different locations in the city.

The deceased have been identified as Avdesh Pareek (37) and Mamta (50), according to Additional DCP (North) Bajrang Singh. Several others, including a 17-year-old girl, are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at SMS Hospital.

Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene as the SUV sped recklessly through the narrow streets, striking people and damaging parked vehicles. The same vehicle is believed to have hit others on MI Road and in the Galta Gate area as well.

“The driver was so intoxicated he could barely stay conscious,” said Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukundacharya, adding that the vehicle had caused destruction across multiple locations.

Local residents quickly responded, surrounding the SUV and handing the driver over to police. ACP (Kotwali) Anoop Singh confirmed that the driver has been detained and the vehicle seized.

Witness Dilkush Kachotiya, who was returning from the Santoshi Mata Temple, recalled the chaos: “The sound of screeching tires was followed by people screaming. Bikes were knocked over, and some people were thrown onto the pavements.”

The incident drew a large crowd both at the crash site and at the hospital, as families and bystanders gathered in shock over the tragedy.
