MUMBAI: Two people were declared brought dead and two others injured after a landslide hit Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, Kurla, early Wednesday morning.
Six to eight people are feared trapped under the debris, according to local residents.
The incident was reported at around 3.48 am. The fire brigade classified it as a Level-II incident at 4.32 am and launched a rescue operation.
The landslide brought down debris onto two to three rooms of the nearby chawl structure.
Rescue operations are underway with specialised equipment, with around 50 BMC labourers and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) engaged in the operation.
Two victims, identified as Sahil Ansari, 28, and Mohamad Samir, 14, were taken to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Two other injured persons, Sohel Ansari, 18, who suffered a head injury, and Mohamad Ansari, 14, were admitted to Kurla Bhabha Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate and evacuate anyone who may remain trapped beneath the debris.
