PUNE: An 11-year-old boy died after coming under the wheels of a truck while travelling on a motorcycle with his father and sister in Maharashtra’s Pune, police said.
The accident took place in Hinjewadi on Monday afternoon, news agency PTI reported.
The boy, a resident of Maan near Hinjewadi, was travelling with his father and sister on a motorcycle to attend his classes when the accident occurred.
According to the FIR, the three were travelling on Nande-Mhalunge Road when a truck allegedly hit their motorcycle from behind, causing all three to fall. The boy came under the truck’s rear wheel and died, police said.
However, CCTV footage reportedly showed a different sequence of events. The footage showed the motorcycle attempting to overtake the truck from the left before skidding on a broken stretch of road. The boy then fell under the truck’s wheels.
Despite the CCTV footage, police have registered a case against the truck driver for allegedly driving recklessly.
Commuters blame poor road condition
The accident triggered anger among local residents and daily commuters travelling to Hinjewadi IT Park, who blamed civic authorities for the poor condition of the road.
Commuters said the broken stretch posed a serious risk to motorists and could have contributed to the accident.
The incident has renewed concerns over road safety in the Hinjewadi area, with locals demanding action to address damaged roads and prevent further accidents.
