THANE: A 26-year-old man has been arrested and banned tobacco products worth over ₹5 lakh seized during a late-night raid in Ulhasnagar in Thane district, officials said.
The operation was carried out near Shahad Gate on Wednesday night following a complaint by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Acting on the tip-off, authorities recovered a large stock of prohibited tobacco products of various brands allegedly meant for illegal sale.
The accused has been identified as Arbaz Nasir Khan (26). Two other suspects have also been named and are currently absconding, with efforts underway to trace and arrest them.
Officials said the seized contraband is valued at approximately ₹5,05,658.
An FIR has been registered at the Ulhasnagar police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with applicable FDA regulations.
