On Sunday, Delhi experienced its coldest November day in three years, with a recorded temperature of 9 degrees Celsius, which is 4.5 degrees below the normal average. This day was the coldest in November since November 29, 2022, when the temperature was noted at 7.3 degrees Celsius.
In 2023, the lowest temperature recorded in November was on the 23rd, at 9.2 degrees, while in 2024, it was on November 29, with the temperature also at 9.2 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the air quality on Monday at 8 am was classified as ‘very poor’, with an overall AQI of 358. The previous day, the 24-hour average AQI reached 377 at 4 pm.
On Monday, several regions in Delhi reported an AQI exceeding 400, with Narela at 405, Rohini at 404, Wazirpur at 402, and Jahangirpuri at 406, all classified in the ‘severe’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board at 8 am.
According to the CPCB, an AQI ranging from 0 to 50 is deemed ‘good,’ 51-100 is ‘satisfactory,’ 101-200 is ‘moderate,’ 201-300 is ‘poor,’ 301-400 is ‘very poor,’ and 401-500 is classified as ‘severe.’
The primary pollutants in the air were tiny particulate matter, including PM2.5 and PM10.
As temperatures dropped to 9 degrees Celsius, the Indian Meteorological Department did not declare a cold wave on Sunday; however, they indicated that such a declaration might occur on Monday if two or more weather stations fulfill the criteria for a second consecutive day.
