AGRA/ALIGARH: Police in Uttar Pradesh have arrested six men accused of running a racket that issued fake birth certificates using the official login credentials of a gram panchayat secretary in Aligarh district.
Investigators said the accused accessed the user ID and password of the secretary of Dattacholi Bujurg village and used it to generate 597 fraudulent certificates through the state’s civil registration portal.
The fake certificates were allegedly issued to people across 16 states and 50 districts, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.
Police added that the forged documents were being misused to manipulate key government services such as Aadhaar updates, driving licence issuance, and even birth and death records.
An investigation is underway to determine the scale of the fraud and identify those who procured the fake documents.
