Prayagraj: A three-and-a-half-year-old boy died on Thursday after he was allegedly slapped by a teacher for crying in class at a private school in the Trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj. The student, Shivay Jaiswal, was in nursery class.
Police have registered an FIR at Naini police station against two teachers under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
According to the family, the child was subjected to both physical and emotional distress by the teachers and was not given appropriate care when he fell ill. They allege that when Shivay began crying in class, one teacher took him to his elder brother’s classroom. There, another teacher allegedly slapped him for crying.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Ajay Pal said, “We are reviewing CCTV footage, and appropriate legal action will be taken. A detailed investigation will help establish the exact sequence of events.”
The boy’s father, Virendra Jaiswal, was informed by the school that his son was unwell. He rushed to the campus and then took Shivay to SN Children Hospital and later to SRN Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A post-mortem was conducted by a panel of two doctors, and the child’s viscera has been preserved for further examination.
Naini police officials confirmed that statements from both family members and school staff have been recorded, and the investigation is ongoing.
