Hyderabad: Two-year-old twin brothers died in a fire that broke out at their home in Sunder Nagar, Kacheguda, on Friday evening. Police suspect a short-circuit—possibly involving an air-conditioner or electrical wiring—as the cause.

According to police, the twins, Raheem and Rehman, were asleep in a ground-floor room when the fire erupted around 4 pm. Kacheguda police said they received an emergency call from the children’s father, Saifuddin Qadri, who works at a local mosque and was away at the time. The twins’ mother was reportedly outside the house and rushed in after being alerted by her elder children.

“One child died on the spot, while the other was shifted to Osmania General Hospital, where he later succumbed,” a senior police officer said, adding that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed. The couple has two other children, both around five years old.

Family members and neighbours told police the blaze may have originated from the air-conditioner, but officials said this would be established only after forensic examination. A team from the Hyderabad police Clues unit visited the spot, collected samples and sent them to the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.

A fire tender from the Gowliguda fire station was rushed to the scene, but residents had already brought the fire under control by the time it arrived. An investigation is underway.
