Bhopal: A training aircraft belonging to Chimes Aviation Academy veered off the runway at the Dhana airstrip on Wednesday. Academy sources said the aircraft skidded after the trainee pilot “applied the brakes too hard” during landing.

Eyewitnesses, however, described a different sequence. They said the trainee attempted to land twice but aborted both attempts, pulling up abruptly each time. On the third attempt, the aircraft reportedly struck the ground, became unstable, and then skidded off the runway. The pilot was later seen safely exiting the aircraft.

Officials said the aircraft is typically used for solo flights by trainees who have completed 8–10 months of flying practice.
