MUMBAI: Malad police have arrested two local fruit vendors for allegedly applying rat poison to fruits before selling them, endangering public health.
The accused — Manoj Kumar Kesarvani and Vipin Kesarvani — were caught red-handed by residents in Rajanpada, Malad, on Tuesday night. According to police, the vendors claimed they used the poison to prevent rodents from eating the fruits stored in godowns or displayed on handcarts.
Alert citizens filmed the duo allegedly smearing rat poison on the fruits, and the video quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
One of the residents, Kunal Salunke, informed Malad police around 9 pm. Acting swiftly, police registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and took both accused into custody for further investigation.
