Rajkot: A 60-year-old man from Gondal was reportedly murdered by his wife’s five brothers while attempting to reconcile with her family at his niece’s residence in Amreli district. The victim, Dinesh Solanki, had both of his legs severed with an axe during the assault. He was immediately taken to Amreli Civil Hospital and subsequently transferred to Rajkot Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Solanki, who had been married to Ratan for 35 years and was the father of three sons, had left his home a month prior following a disagreement with her. He went to his niece Manisha’s house in Arjansukh village of Vadiya taluka to discuss a reconciliation with his in-laws. According to the FIR lodged by Manisha, two of his brothers-in-law — Kanji Savaliya and Haku Savaliya — arrived around 6:30 PM to mediate. When Manisha’s husband stepped out to purchase refreshments, tensions escalated during the conversation. Haku allegedly summoned the others — Nanu, Bagha, Jadav, and three unidentified individuals. Bagha wielded a metal pipe while Jadav carried an axe. The group burst in, and Bagha reportedly struck Solanki on the head, causing him to fall. While Kanji and Haku kept watch outside, the others restrained Solanki as Jadav and the unidentified men hacked off his legs. Manisha, who cried out for assistance, was pushed aside. The assailants fled in a vehicle that was waiting for them. Deputy Superintendent of Police Chirag Desai stated, “The victim had been in conflict with his wife for the past month and had left home due to this issue. He came to this village to discuss the matter with his in-laws. During the conversation, his five brothers-in-law struck him with a metal pipe on the head and inflicted lethal injuries to his legs.” He further mentioned, “We have engaged a forensic team and are actively searching for the suspects.” The Vadiya police have filed a case under Section 103(1) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Kanji, Haku, Nano, Bagha, Jadav, and the three unidentified individuals. Authorities suspect that the assault was connected to the marital discord.
