THANE: A fire broke out early Thursday at a café housed in a multi-storey residential complex in Thane’s Kalwa area, forcing the evacuation of 35 residents, officials said.

The blaze started around 4:58 am at Parsik Café, located on the ground floor of a six-storey building in the Chandrabhaga Park complex, Parsik Nagar. Residents in the adjoining B Wing were asleep when the fire erupted, but all were safely evacuated with the help of fire brigade and disaster management teams, said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell.

The flames gutted furniture, refrigerators, cupboards and other kitchen equipment inside the 1,000 sq ft café. Fire tenders brought the situation under control by 6:25 am, officials confirmed.

No injuries were reported, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
