Madurai: A tragic accident occurred at Meelavittan railway station in Tuticorin district on Sunday evening, when an 18-year-old teenager was electrocuted and two others were injured after climbing atop a train engine to shoot a social media reel.
The deceased has been identified as N. Arun, an 18-year-old resident of Anna Nagar in Meelavittan. The injured are S. Kavin, 15, and Harish, 17, both from Rajagopal Nagar.
According to police reports, the trio climbed onto the train’s engine at the station to film a reel for social media. During the dangerous stunt, Arun came into contact with a high-voltage overhead electric wire, causing an immediate fatal electrocution. Kavin and Harish sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Tuticorin Government Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The railway police have launched an investigation into the incident.
