JABALPUR: A 17-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by the father and brother of a girl he was friends with, after they found the two sitting together late at night in Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh.

The incident occurred in Bhadam Khurd village under the jurisdiction of Gosalpur police station. According to police, the girl had gone to meet her male friend, Kunal Katane, on the night of May 16. When her family realized she was missing, they began searching for her and eventually found her with Kunal.

Enraged, the girl’s father and brother reportedly attacked the teenager, beating him severely and striking him on the head with a stick. Kunal lost consciousness at the scene. He was later rushed to Ashish Hospital in Jabalpur, where he succumbed to his injuries around 7 am on May 17.

Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Sihora, Parul Sharma, confirmed that Kunal was admitted to the hospital in critical condition around 5 am, with visible injuries to his head and body.

Initially, a case of murder against unidentified persons was registered after the boy was found unconscious and bloodied in the fields early that morning. His family had told police that Kunal had left home around 9:30 pm the previous night to guard their fields.

As the investigation progressed, police discovered that Kunal and the 17-year-old girl were close friends—a relationship her family reportedly disapproved of. Based on suspicion, the girl’s father and brother were detained for questioning. During interrogation, they confessed to the assault, admitting they attacked Kunal after finding him with the girl. They returned home with the girl, leaving the boy unconscious in the field.

The father and son have been arrested and charged with murder. Further investigation is ongoing.
