Cuddalore: A 30-year-old woman was arrested in a village near Kattumannarkoil, Cuddalore district, for allegedly pouring boiling oil on her husband following a quarrel over her wish to work outside the home.

Police identified the accused as K. Divya Bharathi, who was booked under three sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after her husband, C. Kannan (41), lodged a complaint.

Investigators said the couple often argued because Kannan, who runs a borewell-digging unit, opposed his wife’s plan to take a job at a local rice mill. After one such quarrel on Wednesday, Kannan went to sleep. Bharathi, who was boiling oil for cooking, allegedly carried the vessel into the room and poured it on his legs below the knees.

Kannan sustained burn injuries on both legs and was rushed by neighbours to the Kattumannarkoil government hospital. Doctors said his condition is stable.
