Bhopal: An SUV driver trying to evade police patrol late at night crashed into a road divider in the Gandhi Nagar area. The driver was arrested, and a case was registered under the Excise Act after police recovered a large quantity of illicit liquor from the vehicle.
Police said they received a tip-off during night patrolling that a white SUV carrying illegal liquor was heading towards Bhopal via Byawra Road and Gandhi Nagar. Acting on the information, teams set up barricades in the area. When the vehicle was spotted near Holy Family School, officers signalled the driver to stop. Instead, the driver sped up and attempted to flee.
A police FRV pursued the SUV, which eventually lost control and rammed into a divider on Airport Road, leaving the vehicle severely damaged. The driver then tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended.
During questioning, the accused identified himself as Subhash Kushwah (21), a resident of Pratap Nagar, Banganga. A search of the SUV led to the recovery of 15 cartons of country-made liquor. As he failed to produce valid documents for the consignment, the liquor was seized and further investigation is underway.
