Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has decided to step up enforcement against the stray cattle menace by registering FIRs against individuals who obstruct cattle-catching teams during field operations. To ensure faster action and greater accountability, municipal joint commissioners will now directly lead and monitor the drive on the ground.
The decision was taken at a review meeting on Monday chaired by MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, who also directed the deployment of police personnel with civic teams to handle resistance or confrontations. “FIRs will be lodged at the concerned police stations against those creating hurdles,” Dahiya said.
Over the past six weeks, civic teams have captured nearly 400 stray cattle and shifted them to authorised shelters. The commissioner instructed officials to maintain continuity in the drive, with special focus on arterial roads, residential pockets and busy intersections, where stray cattle often lead to traffic snarls and accidents.
Reiterating the civic body’s priorities, Dahiya said MCG would continue to focus on road safety and cleanliness. “There will be no leniency towards stray cattle on roads or against those dumping waste in public spaces,” he said.
Sanitation measures were also reviewed at the meeting. Officials said regular cleaning drives are under way, and action is being taken against open dumping of garbage and construction debris. MCG imposed fines totalling Rs 49,500 on 92 violators, while the sanitation security force fined two people Rs 10,000 and seized a vehicle involved in illegal dumping.
Residents have been urged to report stray cattle on roads by calling the helpline at 1800-180-1817 in Gurugram.
